Waves takes a unique approach to their hamburgers. The 100% Kobe beef patties and other fine-looking (and tasting!) ingredients made for delicious hamburgers that left me satisfied and full, but not comatose; being able to enjoy hamburgers without the risk of a “junk food hangover” is one of my favorite things about Waves.
The Big Waves Burger is a double cheeseburger with BBQ sauce, pineapple, egg, and thick-cut bacon. At first glance, it was somewhat intimidating, but it went down a treat. The pineapple was a nice surprise.
The Wasabi Tartar Burger with Grilled Onions felt like it had roots in California or Hawaii as well as Japan. I appreciated the simpler taste when compared to the “everything” burgers we sampled throughout our burger-tasting expedition. I never would have thought to eat tartar sauce on anything other than fish, but it was great here. The wasabi and tartar sauce were already a great combo, but the grilled onions added just enough sweetness to make it pretty much perfect.
Buns: A light bun with sesame seeds on top.Meat: 1 or 2 delicious 100% Kobe beef patties!
Filling stars: The sauces and onions in the Wasabi Tartar burger were fantastic.
Fries: Thick and tasty potato wedges.
