IT’S MY PARTY…
The end of April is here, and it brings with it a very special holiday: my birthday! An auspicious event such as this deserves a fitting party, and this Sunday there is going to be a real humdinger… I’m old. It all starts off at sound bar SHIVA, where we will get good and liquored up before we head down the street to the biggest party of the season, The Pink Sexy! You’re going to want to be in Shinsakae this Sunday so as to not miss the festivities. I will also be putting in an appearance at the Belgian Beer Festival this weekend or next, and I wouldn’t say no to a birthday beer or two.
The point is it’s my birthday, dagnabbit (old man here!) Would it kill ya to help me celebrate?
On to the calendar!
Hisaya Odori Park in Sakae until 21:00
Opening today at 14:00 and running until May 6, this celebration to the best beers brewed by monks is a hoot and a half. I mean, who doesn’t like getting good and sloshed outside while enjoying some of the best musicians Belgium has to offer, including the folky Arsenal and the electronic-pop of Compuphonic. Tickets will cost you ¥3000, but that comes with 12 food/beer coins which, if I can remember anything from last year, are good for about 3 beers.
SHIVA in Shinsakae from 17:00
Myself and DJ scrying are doing a 2-hour all-vinyl set. Seeing as I haven’t touched my turntables in over a year, you are NOT going to want to miss this deck-wreck. NO door charge, and 1-coin food and drinks. I’ve also heard mention of cake… but that’ll be all mine. From 19:00 we’re heading down the street for….
Club Mago in Shinsakae from 19:00
By now I’m sure you’ve heard all about The Sexy Parties and how they are changing to nightlife of Nagoya, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t give credit where it’s due. Daniel Speight and TheSexy.jp crew work very hard to provide our community with a wild night without sacrificing comfort. On top of a lineup that includes some of Nagoya’s most talented DJs, as well as pole and cage dancers, The Sexy Parties are always non-smoking. And at no other club will you feel more at ease. There’ no judging or unwanted attention, just good times and music. So slap on some pink this Sunday, and get yourself to Mago for the Pink Sexy. DOOR ¥3000
Plastic Factory in Imaike from 19:00
It’s the end of an era. Popular gypsy-funk-rock band Semi-On is saying goodbye to two members next Month, and this will be Coleen and Lesley’s final Harmonium Parlour. All performers are welcome at this open mic, but I’m certain everyone there will just want to hear Semi-On. This month the 2nd floor exhibition space features James Goater and his immaculately detailed paintings of dilapidated Japanese architecture. If you’re looking for a venue to showcase your talent, drop them a line at firstname.lastname@example.org. DOOR ¥1000 (1D)
Club JB’s in Sakae from 22:00
JB’s is kicking off their GW festivities early with the return of Frech techno producer, Laurent Garnier. Don’t feel bad that he came all this way just to get ignored in favor of the Pink Sexy. He’ll be back next year. DOOR ¥3,000
Dreamz in Sakae from 21:00
Mr. Vintage has been very busy of late. I’m expecting this year will be a good one this local hip hop legend. He’s performing alongside Chris Jay and MC Tendai on this night. DOOR ¥1000 (1D)
We’ve got light
K.D. Japon in Tsurumai from 18:30
One man orchestra ICHI will wow you with his versatility with just about any instrument you’ve ever seen, and some which you haven’t. ADV ¥2000 / ¥2500
Tenement and HOLY SHIT!
Huck Finn in Imaike from 18:30
The noisy punk of Tenement may seem like a weird combo with HOLY SHIT!’s lo-fi alt, but these American bands manage a happy happenstance… is that redundant? DOOR ¥3000
Wednesday, May 1
James Zabiela Japan Tour
X-Hall in Osu from 22:00
DJ whoever he is along with DJs NMZ, DJ Skullduggery, JAGUAAR and lots more ADV ¥2,500 / DOOR ¥3,000
