The Obvious Circus Events Calendar (Until 9/17)

Nagoya has evolved a lot since I first landed on her shores in 2005.  Most of the change was good, a few bad ones, but evolution, nonetheless.  And while the Aichi scene has expanded greatly of late, with more new parties and groups than I care to count, it warms my heart when something comes along that draws these many interests together into one large community effort.

This year Joe Sichi (of the Red Rock) and his partners have expanded their yearly film festival into an all-out, day-long celebration of movies, music and art.  Joe is one of the unsung heroes of our community, and listing his charitable endeavors  here would take up more space than I am allowed.  Let me simply say that he is one of the good guys, and I know that his Vision for a better Nagoya through art will be a success.

WHAT’S GOT ME BUZZ’n:  3 Days Off

I’m still reeling from summer holidays, and am most thankful for Keiro no Hi this next Monday.  However, with each passing year I realize this is becoming less of a holiday and more of a reminder that I am speeding towards being one of the respected “aged”.

On to the calendar!

Thursday 13th

8th Anniversary Party

MyBar in Sakae from 18:00

For 8 years, the good people at MyBar have provided a happening place for people to come together and have a great time.  So, come out and show your appreciation!  There will be several specials all weekend long.

Friday 14th

Club Mago in Shinsakae from 22:00

I’m not what one would call a “huge fan” of progressive dance music.  For the most part I find its redundancy to be bordering on the coma-inducing.   However, there are a number of producers that I do respect.  I recently added Russian producer Moonbeam to that list.  His progressive trance paints a rich tapestry of futuristic urban soundscapes and the dark stories that lay within.  Highly recommended.  DOOR ¥2,500

70’s Disco NightThe Plastic Factory in Imaike from 21:30
DJs Christian Ollier and Sound Machine are taking you back in time to the decade of decadence and disco.  DOOR ¥1,000 (1D)

Saturday 15th

Aichi Vision

Tsuruma Park from 12:30

This day long celebration of film, music and art is THE community event you don’t want to miss this month.  Besides all of the talented work of both regional and overseas filmmakers, there will be a number of musicians and DJs performing, including The Rats, Semi On, The Tomo Shagger Tribute Band and more.   The official after-party starts at 21:00 down the way at X-Hall in Osu.  ALL DAY PASS ¥1,500

Nagoya Friends India Party

Red Rock in Sakae from 18:00 – 21:00

As far as I can remember, this is Sam’s first party with an Indian theme.  But given the past successes of Nagoya Friends other parties, I am sure this one will be a veritable Holi festival.  ¥3,000 gets you all you can eat and drink with many exciting prizes to be given away.

Geriatric Unit

Huck Finn in Imaike from 17:00

If your weekend is lacking in loud, do be sure to not miss the Japan tour of this hardcore punk band from the UK.  DOOR ¥2,500

Vertical Motion

Club About in Sakae from 22:00

Club About offers an underground club vibe and sound at most of their events.   If you find yourself this Saturday night wandering the Nishiki area, you should pop down and check out this Techno party.  As a reward for your adventurous spirit, you’ll get 4 free drinks.  ADV ¥2,500 | DOOR ¥3,000 (4D)

With a delicious hodgepodge of club favorites like Kaskade and Laidback Luke, as well as a healthy dose of her original tracks, DJ Yummy’s her new mix CD, Y.mag, is great party starter.  However, I think you’d be better off just seeing her live when she takes the Mago stage with DJ OMKT and Hisanori H.  ADV ¥2,500 | DOOR ¥3,000

Day In Day Out, vol. 8

Live and Lounge VIO in Shinsakae from 23:00
