NO MISSED DAYS IN ONE WEEK DAY
OK, so this isn’t my strongest showing in recent history, but for anyone who has been reading the EC from the very beginning (I’m looking at you, Jennifer), you’re well aware that my health (both physical and mental) tends to deteriorate the closer we get to summer. Around the end of May, my faculties just start shutting down in a sort of pre-vacation check. If you think it’s bad now, just wait until August. By then you’ll be lucky to get a drunken attempt to copy/paste from Facebook (or as we call it in the NAG MAG office, “the usual”).
WHAT’S GOT ME BUZZ’n: Sublime Sights, Sounds and Smells
Anyone who has spent any time in any club in any part of the world knows that it can be an affront to the senses. Every time you pay that exuberant door charge it’s a dice shoot between deafening music, blinding lights and unpleasant smells. Super Eight Productions are giving us all another option this June with their newest party, The Aroma Sexy, a non-smoking event featuring the prevalent DJs PauloAtNight and Mai, sexy pole, belly and cage dancers and a special Cabaret performance. Local interior design shop, LoveHouse, will also be providing pleasant ambiance with several sweet-smelling stations that will be a pleasant change from the normal club fare of vomit, tobacco and Axe Body Spray. If their past parties are any indication, you don’t want to miss The Aroma Sexy next Saturday. It just makes good sense.

Pioneer DJ RMX-1000 Demo
Club Mago in Shinsakae from 20:00
Pioneer is always at the forefront of technology, and this is especially true when it comes to their well-crafted DJ equipment. Now, I may be biased (as nearly my entire studio bears their logo), but I am a firm believer in the superiority of the Pioneer sound. And their newest gadget, the RMX-1000, seems to, once again, innovate and rejuvenate the dance music scene. If you’re a hardcore club kid, or just a fan of music production, then be at Mago tonight for a free demo of this wonder tool with DJs Ogawa, Nick Edges and more.
Friday, June 1st
Musica-Sam 10th Anniversary
Sonset Strip in Sakae from 18:00
I pride myself on knowing as much as I can about my adopted home, but I’m not without my blindspots. For instance, what I don’t know about Sonset Strip could fill several of these newsletters, since I just discovered this 10 year-old live house a few months ago. However, not having all the details has never stopped me from forming an opinion. And while I don’t know 75% of the bands performing on this night, I do know that when Duck and The Billys, Nagoya’s best rockabilly band, are on the bill you will not be disappointed. ADV ¥1000 / DOOR ¥1500
Ministry of Sound
Club Mago in Shinsakae from 22:00
The Ministry of Sound, or just MOS to all the cool kids, is not just one of the best clubs in the world, it is also a music label, a fashion label and, in all they do, a trend-setter. I can think of no better way to kick the summer months of then with the floor-packing mixes of DJ Alex Kenji with support from a number of Nagoya’s best. ADV ¥2500 / DOOR ¥3000
Party Up vol. 16
MyBar in Sakae from 21:00
DjPauloAtNight, is going to be dropping his high energy mix of good tune-age ALL NIGHT LONG!
Club JB’s in Sakae from 22:00
A very chill house music party with a very misleading name, courtesy of DJs Shigeta, Takahashi and Jin. DOOR ¥2000
Café Domina in Sakae from 21:00
And speaking of misleading titles; the Peach Pit Party People should have probably brainstormed for their newest LGBT party a bit more before going with this insensitive name. Now, I’m no expert, but wouldn’t “Chase The Rainbow” have been more on the nose? DOOR ¥2500
11 locations in Sakae from 12:00
This 2-day event is showcasing nearly 200 musicians from around Japan in what could possibly be the best music festival in Nagoya. ONE DAY 3000 / TWO DAYS 5000
Makuhari Seaside Park in Chiba from 10:00
Now, this one may be waaaaaaay out of my jurisdiction, but the lineup of this year’s Big Beach Fes, the biggest beach party in Japan, is way too good not to mention. Some of the best DJs from around the world, including the Chemical Brothers, Sven Vath, John Digiweed and Beardy Man, along with 20,000 scantily clad people will make this one hell of a party. DOOR ¥10,500
Plastic Factory in Imaike from 22:00
Exciting night of nothing but house music with DJs Nick Sharp and Kaol with special guest DJ Ten. DOOR ¥1500 (1D)
Nagoya Gakusei Expo in Central Park from 18:00
Nagoya’s long-running (READ: so very old) gaijin band is back with more Latin-jazz-rock-reggae-psychedelic-enka-punk. They’re playing as part of this annual international festival under the TV tower. I believe it’s an all-day event, but Dai-Ryo starts at 18:00. FREE
Hyper Space Real Junk F #70
Huck Finn in Imaike from 19:00
The HSRJF DJs have an encyclopedic knowledge of the obscurest New Wave, punk and alternative bands, and they show of this knowledge every month for free. FREE!
