The Obvious Circus Events Calendar (Until 4/21)

The EC is back and packed. So let’s get to it!

On to the calendar!

Friday 15

Come on down on April 15th to hear the classic country sounds of Borrowed Brass and boot scootin’ country from The Aus City Limits. DOOR 1500 yen

The Johnny Freelance Experience

Lounge & Live VIO in Shinsakae from 21:00

This three-piece from Ibiza couldn’t get any funkier. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! ADV ¥3500 / DOOR ¥4000

DayTrive in Shinsakae from 18:30
Not to be confused with the Irish hardcore punk band of the same name, this band is like a French Joy Division; so not terrible. DOOR 2500 yen

Saturday 16

Team Lenny Fundraising Concert

Plastic Factory in Imaike from 18:45

A gathering of local stars to raise money for Team Lenny, a therapy program for a young boy living with Autism; including Bob Vidler, Brian Cullen and Sarah Mulvey, David Dycus, Ghost of Matsubara – Acoustic, the Tomo Shagger Band and Aya Kawakami and Takashi Terada. DOOR 2000 yen (1D)

Ruidosa Inmundicia

Red Dragon in Shinsakae from 18:30

What I could glean about this event from its ransom letter posing as an event flier is that this band is from Austria and they are playing alongside a number of local hardcore bands whose names I refuse to mention for fear of waking one the elder gods. DOOR 2000 yen (1D)

K.D. Japon in Tsurumai from 18:00

Indietronica isn’t the easiest genre to enjoy. There’s a very narrow margin for success, with the Postal Service (YAY!) on one side and Owl City (bleh!) on the other. I’m not sure yet where this new band out of Tokyo falls on, what I’m calling, the Tamborello Scale, but they are definitely worth a closer listen. DOOR ¥3000

All Found Bright Lights

Club RAD in Sakae from 18:00

They might sound like a bunch of entitled punks from the suburbs of California, but they’re brand of emo is homegrown right here in Nagoya. DOOR ¥2,800

Sunday 17

Acoustic Sunset

Red Rock in Fushimi from 19:00

The Ghost of Matsubara continues to bring the joy of unplugged music to live houses and bars across our fair city. On this night he is once again joined by Elijan Ben. DOOR 300 yen

The Bohemians

Club Upset in Ikeshita from 18:15

These guys are the prettiest Brit-rock band to ever come out of Japan. Their single “male bee, on a sunny day. well well well well!” is an anthem to terrible Engrish in an otherwise awesome song. DOOR ¥3240
