The Obvious Circus Events Calendar – Until 11/9

Halloween ain’t even been dead in the ground 5 days and already people are planning for Christmas & New Year. I mean, come on! Can’t you cut a guy a break? I bust my chops every week trying to get our readers their up-to-the-moment-what’s-the-haps, and all I ask in return is a few days to recharge my batteries after what was the BEST FREAKIN’ HALLOWEEN WEEKEND EVER!

But, alas, that is not my fate. Nagoya is a demanding mistress, as is my editor.

On to the calendar!

Friday, November 4

The Foreign Aritsts Exhibition

The International Center until November 6

Continuing until this Sunday on the fourth floor of the Nagoya International Center there will be a FREE exhibition of local foreign talent of a wide variety of media types. This is the 26th annual FAE, and this year there will be over 60 artists from around the world displaying their work. As an added bonus, they will be holding a party on Sunday after the exhibit closes at 17:00 in the building adjacent to the International Center. They usually have free wine & snacks, and many of the artists will be there. It’s the perfect opportunity to tell them how much you appreciate their talent.

Club iD in Sakae from 20:00

The talented Amsterdam-based DJ Born to Funk will be tearing it up on the main floor of Nagoya’s biggest club tonight. I caught his set at iD last year, and was blown away by how he manages to produce smooth mixes of original & classic house tracks while using 4 decks! He packed the club last year, and I expect even more this time around. Opening for him on this night is iD regular Toida and rising star Andy S. DOOR MEN ¥3000 / WOMEN 2000 (4D)

Sunday, November 6

Brian Cullen & friends

Shooters in Fushimi at 21:00

It’s been good to see Nagoya’s favorite son of Ireland doing gigs again recently. He was one of the first local musicians I ever heard perform, and his lilting ballads & feet-stomping folk songs are as moving as ever. Over the years, he’s played with several musicians, of which we may be lucky enough to also hear on this night. There may be a music charge, but it shouldn’t be over ¥500.

Wednesday, November 9

Club Quattro in Sakae from 18:00

Taking a turn for more bluesy rock with their latest album, Mutemath’s Odd Soul is a great jumping on point for new listeners. Pricey show, but highly recommended DOOR ¥6300
