The Nagoya International Charity Film, Music and Arts Festival – September 15, 2012

The Nagoya International Charity Film, Music and Arts Festival
(NICFMAF) is a non-profit all day, all night international event held once a year during September in Tsurumai Park. Its mission is to bring together local and international artists, musicians, performers and businesses to help raise money for charities in the Chubu region. On September 15th this year’s festival will be held in Tsurumai Park Amphitheater during the day and film viewing will follow afterwards in Tsurumai Park’s 2000 seat theater. The following night, September 16th, an Awards Show and Banquet will held to honor festival winners and participants.

The festival first began in 2008 under the original name “The Red Rock Charity Film Festival” and was organized by Joe Sichi and Tim Lennane. It showcased local and international filmmakers and their short movies, with film submissions from as far away as Norway and South Africa. Over the years the festival has raised thousands of dollars for local charities.

In 2012, the event group Stereophonic, along with KPB studios and Japan Casting all joined as partners. With expanding interest in the festival and the addition of many talented local and international live artists and musicians, the organizing team decided to move the festival to a bigger and better location in Tsurumai Park to make a full day celebration of film, music and arts. With this change, it was decided the name of the festival be changed to “The Nagoya International Charity Film, Music and Arts Festival (NICFMAF)”. Last year the festival raised ¥150,000 for Santa and Friends Nagoya.  This year they are looking to double the amount raised and hoping for a crowd of 500 on the day.

The organizing team is presenting a new category this year, The Corporate Film Challenge. This category presents a great way to involve your company with the local community. All you have to do to enter is produce a one to three minute narrative film, commercial or music video that introduces your company in a humorous way.  That’s it. Expensive equipment is not a requirement, your team can put a short piece together with simply a smartphone.
