Shonai FC Wants You! (To Play Football)

Are you missing playing proper Football (Soccer) on the weekends? Well grab your boots and head on down to Shonai Ryokuchi Koen every sunday afternoon. That’s where you’ll find Gary Taggart, the organizer of The Shonai Football Club. We sat down with Gary to find out about Shonai FC and how you can join.

How long has the Shonai FC been around?

“Well Shonai has been in Nagoya since 2003 playing every Sunday on the what seems to be the only free grass in Nagoya. There are two strands to Shonai, Sunday Shonai and Shonai FC.

What is Sunday Shonai?

Sunday Shonai takes place every Sunday from 2pm at Shonai Ryokuchi Koen (park) and is open to everybody and any level. It is mainly pick-up and kickabout games. It’s fun and free! Just come down for a couple of hours of outdoor footie.

What about Shonai FC?

Shonai FC is for those who want to play in competitive tournaments or friendly games. We have players from many different backgrounds, from almost every continent who all share a passion for Football.

We also have many players who left Japan years ago but still keep in contact with Shonai and say it was one of the most enjoyable things about living in Nagoya. Once you play with Shonai, your always part of Shonai!

If you would like more details or want to join the Shonai mailing list contact Gary or add Shonai as a facebook friend.

You can always just head down to Shonai Ryokuchi Koen any Sunday from 2 pm. The nearest subway station is coincidentally called Shonai Ryokuchi Koen Stn. and is on the Tsurumai Line.

One response to “Shonai FC Wants You! (To Play Football)

  1. Hi Gary. Can I contact you. My grandson (from Newcastle Australia) has just moved to live with his Japanese Dad in Nagoya. He doesn’t speak Japanese yet, is 18 years old, is quite lonely but lives for his soccer. I found your site in the Nagoya Calendar (I used to live there). Can you tell me how he can join your club. Thanks
