Okazaki Fireworks Festival – August 6th, 2011

The Okazaki fireworks festival is well known among locals as the largest fireworks display you can see in Central Japan. Nearly 480,000 people will descend on this nearby town creating a truly exciting festival atmosphere. The festival is not just fireworks. There will be over 100 stalls featuring every imaginable thing that can be skewered as well as all the souvenir buying and goldfish catching you can handle.

While the number of people attending may make you a bit skittish about attending, there is no doubt that if you are a fireworks junkie then this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Japan is known for making small things, but this is one thing they do REALLY BIG!

Festival highlights include some traditional Mikawa Fireworks which originated in the Edo period. The variety of displays range from regular set pieces to “Golden Fish” fireworks, Simultaneous fireworks, the “Melody Star Mine” which is  set off to music, and many, many more.

Time : 6:50 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location : The Otogawa Riverside and Yahagigawa Riverside area in Okazaki city
* In case of rain, the event will be postponed till the following day.

5 min from Okazakikoen Sta or 15 mins walk from Higashi-Okazaki Sta. on Meitetsu Nagoya Line (about 30 minutes from Nagoya Station)
