Track 1)  Gloomy Sunday by Vinny Vintage

Track 2)  In And Out (Club Mix)  by Vinny Vintage

Track 2)  Close To You  by Vinny Vintage

This week’s podcast is all about DJ’s and the Hip Hop scene in Nag. We have special guests DJ Ghost Willy, DJ Scrying and Japanzine Alumnus ZEEK in the house to talk about three DJ events happening in July and August. We also talk smack about lazy DJ’s who play the same track over and over.

Sessions at the Beach:  Saturday, July 25th

Nagoya will virtually empty this Saturday because everyone is heading to Utsumi for Sessions At The Beach. This is a free event which lasts all day and features an A list of local DJ’s. Starts at 10 AM!

Nagoya Summer Jam: Saturday August 4th

This week Vinny Vintage talks about the Nagoya Summer Jam taking place at Lea Lea Hale. The music includes Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, dance, electro, drum n bass, and more together in one place. Live performances by some of Nagoya’s biggest talents, Vinny Vintage, MA$A, MDG, Chris J, Mofonix, MC Tendai, DJ. Ghost Willy, RH.RN and more!

What’s Nagging

This is Danny’s last podcast before he goes on break so this s your last chance to find out what is happening in the Nag from the horse’s mouth… wait that wasn’t funny!

Thursday 26

UKFC on the Road 2012 at Diamond Hall in Shinsakae from 16:00
These days, Diamond Hall’s calendar tends to be deficient in bands anyone would care to see. Though they make up for it a bit this night with J-rock from BIGMAMA, The Novembers, Polysics and the telephones. DOOR ¥3900

Wanna Be Child at Club JB’s in Sakae from 21:00
Changes are in store for this long-running house party. The lineup has been extended to include a good number of talented DJs including Toida, Mizo, Tom Langford and Andy S. Get an early start to your weekend because work on Friday is highly overrated. DOOR ¥2000

Friday 27

Sweetest vol. 3 at Club Ozon in Sakae from 19:00
This house music party featuring popular DJs JUNK and PaulaAtNight kicks off at 19:00 and ends at midnight. I’m not sure exactly who this early-bird special appeals to, but I’m guessing it’s for the oft-ignored octogenarian club kids in Nagoya. MEN ¥2000 / ¥3000 (2D), WOMEN ???

Saturday 28

Sound Machine Sessions on the Beach at Utsumi Beach from 10:00 AM
Ah, the beach party. The one time every year when I realize that I’ve really let myself go over the winter months. If you’re in the same tubby boat, then we’ve got until the end of the month to shape up for this day-long fiesta featuring DJs PauloAtNight, Mai, Junky, dij, scrying, matt, lest we be harpooned by Japanese fishermen. FREE!

Dimensions at Cafe Domina in Sakae from 22:00
If you’re not completely danced out after the beach party, head over to Domina for the Nagoya Bass Coalition’s return with Alexander Sonoir, AGO, MOFONIX, Smoker and Skullduggery. DOOR ¥2000 (1D)

ONE OF US AINT COMIN’ BACK ALIVE at Taurus in Shinsakae from 19:30
The Rats and S.H.I killing it at Taurus on a Saturday Night. Break stuff.

Zengo Kankei plays Kraftwork at Plastic Factory in Imaike from 21:00
The Factory is showing some love for us children of the 80s (and all the wannabes). Featuring another amazing live performance from ZENGO KANKEI (a guy whose knowledge of New Wave music puts my own to shame) with DJ Kaol. DOOR ¥1500 (1D)

Alex from Tokyo at Club JB’s in Sakae from 22:00
DOOR ¥2500

Sunday 29

Electric Brian and the Shockers at Shooters in Fushimi from 19:00
After debuting their new band name last weekend (which Mr. Cullen assures me he’s not worried about litigation from the other Shockers band in Nagoya) they’re taking their new and loud sound to a bigger venue this weekend. And to show them how to really rock Shooters out, they’ve brought along veteran performers Bone Zero and their raucous cover of rock classics. Rumor has it that the talented and lovely Aya Kawakami will be putting in some guest vocals on this night as well. ¥300

Harmonium Parlour at Plastic Factory in Imaike from 19:00  www.semion-org
I have a lot of love and respect for this monthly open mic even though I haven’t made it out for one in a good long while. However, this is clearly a case of “do as I say, not as I do”. Many local acts get their start on this stage, and if you’ve got a talent to showcase, I can think of no better venue. Besides all the great open-mic performances on the main stage, the work of Tinne and Daniel Cheah will be in the upstairs gallery. DOOR ¥1000 (1D)

NEA Summer Quiz Night at The Elephant’s Nest in Fushimi from 20:30
The pub quiz returns to Nagoya’s British-est pub (at least in the eyes of a bloke from Tennessee). So put together your crack team of drinkers and knowledge seekers and see if you’ve got the fortitude to answer as many questions as you can about various topics such as movies, sports, music, culture, famous people (with questions in both English and Japanese). ¥500 entry fee with lots of prizes to be won

Girls House at Amateras Lounge in Sakae from 21:00
This classy new night spot is finally reaching out to the foreign community, and our ambassador in this endeavor is DJ Nick Edges, who is joined by YU-I for this impressive ladies night special. MEN ¥2,000 / WOMEN ¥1,000

Monday 30

Count Basie Orchestra at Blue Note in Sakae
“The Swingingest Band In All The Land” returns to Nagoya. Though I really wish they’d play a venue better suited to the dancing their BIG band sound encourages. DOOR ¥8700
