From the palm readers on the street to the Ronald Bards of the world, there is no shortage of con artists willing to take advantage of people at their most desperate. The Nagoya Players winter production, Psychic, explores the relationship between a spiritual medium, Oz, the Great, and his mark, the grief-stricken Marco Franchi. In failing health and haunted by the memory of his fiancée, Marco desperately seeks an answer to a cryptic message she left behind, employing Oz to help him. Psychic is packed with a plethora of complex twists and turns that will keep you absorbed.
This original script comes from local writer and director Shawn Mahler. This is his second production with Nagoya’s longest running theatre troupe, following 2014’s successful run of Anger. The cast is made up of some of Nagoya’s most respected stage performers: Dan Pousson, Biagino Cristiano, George Van Horn, and John Ahern. This is also the introductory performance of actors Joya Joseph, Darian Gore and Fabiane Fujikawa. Rounding out the talented crew are local producers Robert Beaty and Stiv Peck, who are responsible for the distinctive and experimental music.
Psychic will be performed in English but there will be Japanese subtitles courtesy of Saki Takeyama of Creative Studio Puzzle. The show opens at the Nanjare Theater in Nagoya Eki-mae on Dec 11.
