This week’s music is by Fatblueman. The man behind the band, John Janzen, will be leaving Japan so this is a shout out to him and all the musicians who have played with him over the years! Catch the FINAL Fatblueman gig at The Red Rock Sunday July 8th at The Red Rock. Be sure to drop in and say farewell!

Track 1)  Back To Winnipeg by Fatblueman

Track 2)  Black Water  by Fatblueman

This week we have a reunion of sorts as the prodigal Adam Miller returns to the show to talk – yep you guessed it – about the upcoming Nagoya Player’s production of his original stage play “Three Guys… One Pub” Along for the ride is William “Cody” Zies. More info HERE

Also on the show this week we test drive the absolutely revolting “Clear Taste” Rolling Hop – apparently a Rolling Stones flavored alcoholic bevvie. What is it made of…? Keith Richard’s sweat? Mick’s saliva? Both? Who knows! One thing is certain this is not a beer you would respectfully drink in public. The crew the descends into petty beer one-up-manship.

What’s Nagging

Friday 6th

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin @ KD Japon (18:30 | ¥3,000)

I enjoy the odd names of rock bands just as much as the next music nerd, but this American band has exceeded the point where their name and the acronym for same name are both equally troublesome to say. Thankfully, their upbeat music is well worth the hassle.

Saturday 7th

Club About 3rd Anniversary Party at Tsuruma Park from 13:00 (FREE)

To be honest, I doubted the staying power of Club About, and was pleasantly surprised every month they didn’t shut their doors forever. Now, three years later, and I am happy to admit how wrong I was. Joining the daytime celebrations is out-of-this-world fashion designer and part-time towering robot, Shinji Baba. He and his 9-foot robot armor have been seen at some of the biggest party’s, and I am curious which of his many designs he will be sporting in the daytime heat. For his safety, I hope it’s not the metal armor I saw in at the last Sexy Party. Many of the Club About regular DJs will also be there.

Da Doo Ron Ron vol.22 @ Club Upset (23:30 | ¥2500)

Expect a girl-riot when Tokyo-based That’s A NO NO! bring their punk sound to Ikeshita with The BeatGirls. Nagoya’s Police Girl will also be there, but seeing as they are all dudes, I think there may have been a booking mistake.

Sunday 8th

AcoustRock @ Red Rock in Sakae from 18:30

Ghost of Matsubara (Special acoustic performance by Tom Fallon)
FATBLUEMAN (Mini-reunion!!!! This will be John Janzen’s last show in Japan! DON’T MISS IT!!!)
¥1000 Door

blue in green, vol. 10 @ Lounge and Live Vio in Shinsakae from 17:30

ADV ¥3000 / DOOR ¥3500

Sunday Matinee – ‘Gojira’ @ Shooters in Fushimi from 16:00

We’re hosting a great fundraiser for our documentary – ‘That Day: A Survivor’s Story’ –
Come hang out and watch a great movie – the Original ‘Godzilla’!! – have some snacks and learn about our project.
they’re asking for a donation of ¥2,500 which includes snacks, finger food, and drinks.
After the movie there will be a short discussion about the underlining themes of Gojra

Wednesday 11th

Maya Vik Japan Tour @ Club Upset (18:00 | ¥3,500)

The best nightspot in Ikeshita continues to impress me with their lineup this month, bringing this talented electro-pop act all the way from Norway. The lovely Maya Vik is a must see, if only for her impressive ‘fro.

Nagoya Oktoberfest 2012 @ Hisayaodori Park until 21:00

This is totally one of those “only in Japan” moments: Nagoya does indeed celebrate their annual all-things-German festival in the middle of the summer. Normally, I’d spend the next few sentences taking the piss out of this faux pas. However, I am WAY TO EXCITED about all of the German beers (Bitburger, Erdinger, Lowenbrau) and foods (sausages, schnitzel, pretzels, sauerkraut) I am going to be devouring. Plus, there will be an actual German orchestra wearing lederhosen and performing traditional German folk music. Entry is free, but the food and booze are not.
