Hanami in the Nags

We go on and on about this week’s most predictable topic – the impending hanami season. Without Rangi to regulate the discussion this week the chatter gets a bit off kilter. Basically we take something nice, sweet and beautiful and manage to take it down to our level of convo. Enjoy!

The OZZIE lunch at Red Rock

Daniel reports back about his excursion to the newfangled Ozzie lunch at Red Rock. It was good. They make a great Yank burger! Plus they are open 11:30 to 3:00 Tuesday to Friday for lunch and open all day Saturday and Sunday from 11:30. Danny recommends the weekend brunch. Great set price in a convenient location if you are in need of an enjoyable lunch in the heart of Sakae. More HERE

We bid adieu to Adam

Office sexbot and all around writer extraordinaire is handing in his notice and creating a new safe word as he makes his final regular appearance on the podcast. He’ll be back occasionally and is actively involved in the production of the next Nagoya Players performance for which he wrote the original script. Adam we will miss you and your fine Essex manners! Godspeed!

Programming note: There will not be a podcast next week. Season 3 Debuts April 11th!

What’s Nagging

Thursday 29th

Fountains Of Wayne
Club Quattro in Sakae from 19:00
8 years after Stacy’s Mom and the MTV-fame it created, Fountains of Wayne is back with new album Sky Full of Holes which is, thankfully, far less irreverent and much more mature than all their past efforts combined. I am actually recommending you go to this show; a sure sign of the apocalypse. DOOR ¥6000

Friday 30th

TRIP
Club JB’s in Sakae from 22:00
OK, admittedly, I’m a bit over electro. But if anybody can breathe life into this quickly aging fad, it’s the TRIP Djs with special guest DJ Sakurai Makoto of Dragon Ash. ADV ¥2500 / DOOR ¥3000

Saturday 31st

House Revenge
Club Mago in Shinsakae from 22:00
I’m a huge fan of Tokyo’s DJ EMMA’s rocking house mixes, and am always happy when he headlines this regular dance party. To be honest, his sets are some of the best you’re likely to hear at Mago, after DJ OGAWA that is. Luckily, on this night, you’ll get both big name DJs for the price of one. ADV ¥3000 / DOOR ¥3500 (1D)

Sunday 1st

To Be Free!
Sonset Strip in Shinsakae from 18:00
There’s a whole lot of bad going down at this punk-heavy event. I, however, will focus on the good; of which there is more than enough in the Oldtones, my new favorite ska band. This a great way to kick off your April. No foolin’!  DOOR ¥2500

Jazztronik
Blue Note in Sakae at 18:30 and 21:15
One of Japan’s most talented producers is bringing his fantastic live show to Nagoya. Expect a good deal of special guests and a full-on orchestra backing his unique jazzy house. DOOR ¥6800

Monday 2nd

Sum 41
Zepp Nagoya from 18:00
Punk Spring is back, and, as always, it’s going to be a 2 day, beer-fueled, mosh-pit-filling hanami with several top acts including this Peter Pan Punk act with New Found Glory. DOOR ¥7000

Anthrax
Diamond Hall in Shinsakae from 18:00
And just so all you metal heads don’t feel left out, feel free to rage to the thrash metal of Anthrax with special guests, Hell Yeah. DOOR ¥7350

Tuesday 3rd

The Offspring
Zepp Nagoya from 18:00
Day two of Punk Spring features yet another American punk band who staunchly refuses to grow up. DOOR ¥7500

Descendents
Club Quattro in Sakae from 18:00
Ah, the punk rockers dilemma: Do you go for the a true punk act that has been kicking ass for longer than many of you’ve been alive, or settle for The Offspring. DOOR ¥5500
