NAGMAG’s weekly live broadcast on Facebook is set to have a BIG 2018
Watch every Tuesday on www.facebook.com/nagoyabuzz
When we started the original NAGMAG podcast back in 2011, it was just 4 guys sitting around a mic and chatting about nothing. So, basically, it was a typical podcast. We had some fun and drank some beer. We stopped after about 50 episodes, most of which have been lost, rightfully so, to the depths of the Web.
When we brought the show back 5 years later little was salvaged from those early days. We did away with the roundtable of hosts and the beer (only one of which is missed), and kept those rare instances of live music. Re-dubbed Nagoya BUZZ after NAGMAG’s popular facebook page, the show featured a different special guest every week to share their stories and music on the air. That first year was amazing. We had great music, insightful discussions about Gaijin life and we really seemed to strike a chord. People were listening.
It was soon after that we decided to take the show to Facebook Live. We started to explore venues outside of our tiny offices; broadcasting on location at a number of our favorite bars and restaurants in the city. We featured professional and touring musicians, including the amazing shamisen skills of Koji Yamaguchi, Austin songwriter Matt The Electrician and local Super Idol Group OSU. And last October, we found a new home at GC Live in Shinsakae, every Tuesday from 18:00. 2017 was a busy year on the BUZZ.
And 2018 is going to be busier, dare-I-say, BUZZIER. (EDITOR: Daniel “buzzier” is not a word.)
We’re hitting the ground rocking with our very first show on Tuesday, January 9 with international supergroup Turning The Sea Into Monsters. On the 16th, from Japan via Brazil Building Trees makes their debut on the show. And then on Monday, January 29th, local trio MOSAIC returns for a very special acoustic On Location at The Rock in Sakae.
The BUZZIEST (EDITOR: just no) thing 2018 has in store is our first ever Friday Night Live. On January 26th we’ve planned a very special interview and online performance with one of Aichi’s most-loved groups, BLANKA. Hailing from Nishio and Australia, the electronic funk and groove these guys make is pure dance-fuel. Starting at 19:00, our online audience will be treated to a special storytellers-esque performance. At 20:00, the real show begins with live performances from supporting acts SIGEMIS and Self Control System with the art of Genevieve Harnette, all culminating with a full performance from BLANKA. Our Friday Night Live shows will be held the last Friday of every month at Gotham City in Shinsakae. Tickets are only ¥1,500, available at the door, and include a drink ticket. The online portion of the show can be seen at www.facebook.com/nagoyabuzz (hit the LIKE button to get a notification whenever we go live), and will be screened exclusively by the first 20 people who come to GC Live by 19:00 on the day. We’ve lined up some fantastic guests this year, maintaining that the Nagoya BUZZ is still the best way to discover the personalities and talent that make our community so awesome.
