Daniel Ostrander runs-down your options this Halloween
Sunday, October 21
The Elephant’s Nest in Fushimi
A full week before Halloween, this classic pub will be presenting a haunted edition of their regular Nagoya Pub Quiz. So, put together a team of your brightest friends (or at least the one’s that fancy themselves to be), and take on the challenge of 7 rounds of horror-themed questions. Starts at 19:45. ¥1000 with the proceeds going to charity.
Friday, October 26
Red Rock in Sakae
Every year, it seems that Nagoya Friends are the first out of the gate with their Halloween meet’n’greet for foreigners and Japanese people who want to speak English. Includes a costume contest, games, food and drinks at only ¥3000.
iD Café in Sakae
Nagoya’s most well-known club doesn’t really need a special holiday in order to pack all 4 of its floors. Still, their Batcave is probably the coolest place to start your festivities this Halloween. They will be having a party every night from Friday to Sunday. Women in a Halloween or “sexy” costume will get in for free until 9:30.
Nagoya OZON Halloween Party
OZON Is holding Halloween parties on Friday and Saturday this year. Doors open at 19:30 and they have specials when you come early. This year they will have a chocolate fountains as well as Drag Queens.
MyBar in Sakae
Nothing terrifies more than the fashion and music of the 1970s, of which there will be plenty at this Halloween Disco Night with DJ DrDROOM.
Saturday, October 27
Winter Garden Dance Hall
With its flare for nostalgia and a regal façade that has seen better days, The Winter Garden dance hall looks like it belongs in The Shining’s Overlook Hotel. I can think of no better place to hold the Halloween Mixer Party, always the best place to start the festivities. Includes a costume contest, belly dancers and the talented DJ StickMan. ADV ¥4,000 / DOOR ¥4,500 (includes food and all you can drink)
Club Mago and Lounge Vio
Every Sexy Party held this year has been building up to this one night! Now, there’s a lot going down and I only have so much space so (deep breath) 3 stages, 15 DJs, sexy pole and cage dancers, a haunted entranceway, free shuttle bus, the Red Bull Girls, something called sexy Dracula girls and all the craziness you’ve come to expect from The Sexy. Oh, yeah, and they’re giving away a ton of prizes in the costume contest including a free dinner for two at Sarmale, a “Gold VIP” member’s card that gets you in FREE to MAGO for one year and of course the ¥100,000 cash prize for best costume! ADV ¥2,500 / DOOR ¥3,000
Café Peacenik in Imaike
For those of you who need some of the Devil’s music for your Halloween revelries, new local band ELEVEN along with Abstract Soundscape Performance and several rock DJs will be at this cool sound café. Don your Guy Fawkes mask and take part in their anarchist costume contest. ¥1,500
Club JB’s / Domina / About / Red Rock / etc in Sakae
Now, I am not one to get in a pissing contest concerning quality v. quantity, but it’s safe to assume that whoever isn’t at the Sexy Halloween will be at The Absolute Halloween with the most dedicated of partiers going to both). And with admission into 7 nightspots and over 50 performers, well… they certainly have the quantity down. ¥3,000
The Elephant’s Nest in Fushimi
The Elephant’s Nest is also having their official Halloween event on the 27th.
Sunday, October 28
Shooters in Fushimi
Sure there are tons of parties for the adults, but only Shooters gives parents a place to bring their little monsters for trick or treating, games and a costume parade. The Kids Halloween Party kicks off at 11:30. Kids 5 and under ¥500, ages 6-12 ¥1,000.
After the rug rats clear out, Nagoya Swings and Power English are giving you your last chance to wear that costume you worked so hard on! Dancing Evil III features wild rockabilly tunes from Duck and The Billys, a smorgasbord of delicious food and an open bar. You’re going to want to take Monday off. ADV ¥2,500 / DOOR ¥3,000
