Want to hit the white water? Adventure Spirit!

Experience an outdoor adventure with Adventure Spirit, rafting the exciting rapids of the natural Nagara River. Famous in central Japan, the Nagara River starts in the snowy mountains of northern Gifu prefecture rushing south between the mountains near Gujo Hachiman.

This river can offer adventurous (grade three) bouncy big volume rapids plus relaxing calm pools all in a beautiful scenic mountain environment. If you have the spirit for adventure come enjoy the challenge rafting and feel alive outdoors on one of the few remaining natural rivers in Japan!

Adventure Spirit will hook you up with all your rafting necessities. They’ve got whitewater rafts (usually 7 customers per boat) or inflatable kayaks (1-2 person) and paddles to match.

They’ll dress you in the standard comfort and safety attire, such as helmets, life jackets, spray jackets, thermal tops, and wetsuits. Adventure Spirit also supplies professional instruction from experienced rafting guides. They’ll also provide you with the appropriate insurance, a delicious lunch, snacks and drinks, and a ticket to the onsen. Also, all the photos of your rafting trip will be free!
You’ll need to bring:

  • Swimsuit and shorts
  • Sports sandals, wetsuit boots or old sneakers
  • A full set of dry clothes and extra shoes
  • A small towel and bathroom set
  • If you wear glasses, straps are recommended
  • Sunscreen
  • A quick drying shirt or rash guard to keep
    the sun off
  • An adventurous spirit!

The meeting place is at the boat house in Minami Town in Gujo, Gifu at 9am. Low season (June and October) prices are ¥10,000 per full day for rafting or kayaking.  The high season prices from July to September are ¥11,000. Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays are an added ¥1,000. It’s worth every yen!

The whitewater section of the Nagara River is generally recommended for adults to junior high school students. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Adventure Spirit about family rafting.

  1. Hi! Hubby signed up for Sept 6. Had a few questions. Will deposit ¥22,000 total for 2 people (Tsujimura + wife, Masa & May) as instructed by Chris. Will we need to show some kind of receipt or reservation confirmation?
    Hubby (67), May (63) feeling a little worried about our physical abilities. Have you had other “oldies”; any particular advice or comments?
    What is the general schedule for a trip? What time does it start/end? We’ll be driving from Nagoya that morning.
