Learn About Nagoya’s English-language Scouts On Fall Family Day
September 11, 2016

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. – The Scout’s Law

The world of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts is familiar to many around the world. This great program for boys ages 5 to 18 gives boys a chance to learn skills, have adventures, and make lifelong friends. Boy Scouts of America Unit 758 (Nagoya) started in the late fall of 2015 after a 40+ year absence of an English-language scout program in the Chubu area. The Unit has continued to grow during this year, and is now officially Cub Scout Pack 758 and Boy Scout Troop 758. More than 20 boys have been meeting with their dens and patrol taking field trips, learning new skills, and working on various achievements.

The Scouting year starts in the fall to coincide with the US school system. To mark our new year, Unit 758 will be hosting a Fall Family Day open to the community. There will be activities for scouts and visiting boys, food stalls, garage sale as well as two sit-down meetings for the parents to learn about our activities.

This fall, Pack 758 has been chosen to participate in the pilot Lion program for kindergarten-age boys. This weaves traditional Scouting concepts of character development, leadership skills, personal fitness and citizenship into activities that are age-appropriate and fun for the boys and their parents.

Cub Scout Pack 758’s ranks also include Tiger (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), Bear (3rd grade), and Webelos (4th & 5th grade). Boy Scout Troop 758 is opene to boys grades 6 and higher.

Please note that for scouts in Japanese school, the scouting year starts from the 2nd semester of the scout’s current grade. Handbooks and uniforms follow the BSA system. Membership and council dues are approximately ¥10,000 a year, and local dues are ¥12,000 a year. Parent participation is required for the lower ranks, and encouraged for the older ranks. We value the various backgrounds parents bring as Den Leaders and general committee members.

Cub Scout ranks usually meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month in Jiyugaoka. Boy Scout Troop meets once or twice a month at various locations around Nagoya.  Meetings are open to visitors. Just drop us a line and we will give you more details.

Come join scouting in Nagoya for a great experience for boys and parents!
