LBB 2016: The Cerveza

The Cerveza is one of the coolest bars in perhaps the coolest areas in Nagoya. Tucked away in Endoji, The Cerveza is a Mexican and Japanese fusion bar – Japexican? Mexinese? – that serves amazing food in a originally styled nouveau Aztec aesthetic.

Cerveza owner Ban also runs Nagoya’s famous The Corner burger restaurant, which explains why the food is so amazing, and how he was able to poach the excellent Takanori-san as bar manager, the man who has revolutionised their beer menu to include an exciting array of craft beers.

The Drink: Michelada

It’s tempting to choose one of The Cervezas frozen cocktails as their featured drink – particularly the margarita which comes in a yard glass and for safety’s sake should be shared.

But this year we decided to go for something a little bit different. The Michelada is a beer cocktail of Mexican Tecate beer, tomato juice, lime juice, pepper, Worcester sauce and chilli. Lots of chilli. It nearly blew my bloody head off. It’s like an arse kicking Bloody Mary for the night before the morning after.
