Inuyama Festival
April 1 - 2, 2017

The Inuyama festival has been held since 1635 initially organised by  Naruse Hayato no Sho Masatora, a chief retainer of the Owari Tokugawa family and lord of Inuyama Castle, as a festival of Haritsuna Shrine. During the festival  thirteen three tier festival floats that have been passed down since the Edo period give karakuri doll performances to the sound of flute and taiko music. At night, all the floats weave their way through avenues of cherry trees in full bloom as they parade through the castle town, each of them bearing 365 glowing lanterns. The magnificent sight is like something out of a nishiki-e woodblock print.
