Chris Zarodkiewicz was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA and came to Japan on November 19,1993. He had been living and working in Toronto, Cananda for Hilton. He has been running my own company(Cezars International K.K.) for 24 years. This includes many well known businesses such as Shooters, The Rock, Cezars Kitchen, Interlink and Japan Mobility. He has two children Sophia and Christopher. We asked him to answer our version of the Proust Questionnaire. Here are his answers:
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Family. This is in personal and professional life. The feeling of closeness of belonging to a group with similar passions, traits, goals and aspirations.
What is your greatest fear?
I try to spend as little time as possible being afraid.
That being said, my greatest fears have changed over the years from failure in business to failure of not being able to take care of the people that are close to me.
What historical figure do you most identify with?
Walt Disney and JFK. Both men had passion and love for life and took on challenges that most people would not have considered.
Which living person do you most admire?
Alice. She is 71 and is someone I admire greatly. She never ceases to amaze me in what she does and how she handles the curve balls that life throws at us all. She is fair, funny, kind, adventurous and is the kind of person you want to have with you when trying to work through any issues. She is the master of her universe that’s filled with infectious positive energy.
What figure from literature is your greatest hero?
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Deplore is such a strong word and I don’t really feel I deplore anything about myself. If I had to pick one thing that is not a part of my DNA is an eye for detail.
What trait do you most deplore in gaijin?
I don’t really see “Gaijin” as a group that can be pigeon holed with one deplorable trait.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Eating and drinking. I am happy to spend time and money on a great meal with great wine and great company.
On what occasion do you lie?
I think telling a lie could be acceptable if it is in an effort to shield someone from a truth that could cause pain that’s severely damaging to them.
What is your favorite journey?
Life… I love every part of the ride. I think it gets better with every year and every experience.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Magnificence. This is one I could live without.
Which living person do you most despise?
I think we all have moments where we are not happy with people for one reason or another. That being said I don’t have any one who fits that level of dislike.
What is your greatest regret?
I try not to regret as it’s a waste of energy.

Which talent would you most like to have?
A great backhand.
What is your most treasured possession?
Its a tie between my pool cue and a baseball bat signed by five Hall of Famers.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Loss of a loved one.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
I like men who are real. No excuses and no apologies.
What is the quality you most admire in a woman?
Humor. I love a woman who loves to laugh. It is indicative of an ability to focus on the more important things in life.
What do you most value in your friends?
Companionship. Having a feeling of closeness and understanding that comes with knowing someone for a long period of time.
How would you like to die?
In the arms of someone I love, surrounded by people I love.
