Some burger places do a meal that’s happy, and being happy is, of course, okay. But it’s not a patch on ‘joy’, is it? And Big Joy? Well, that smashes ‘happy’ right out of the fucking park! The Big Joy Burger is filled to the gills with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, cheese and a huge slice of smoked pork that they call bacon but could fit happily on a plate of gammon and chips. And then there’s the onion ring. Now, I’ve never before waxed lyrical about an onion ring, but this is a ring so immense and impressive that Liberace would have considered it ostentatious. This means it towers off the plate and the toasted bun on the top has to do a precarious balancing act that would make Philippe Petit shudder with fear.
Burger: Joyously juicy.
Bun: Ever so slightly toasted.
Filling stars: The thick bacon and gigantic onion ring.
Fries: Classic chip shop chips.
