From the outside, Alan Parkinson’s Lumarium series of inflatable sculptures give an impression of the castles often played in at childrens’ parties, but this is something completely different. Stepping inside, one is instantly transported to a world of light and color. It can make one feel small, as if they are somewhere inside the body of a giant creature or on another planet; visitors have described the art as “A sanctuary of the senses” and “Transformative. People seemed to be taken… brought back to a place of tranquility and joy”. The installation at Okazaki Park for the 2016 Aichi Triennale is “Pentalum”, fittingly inspired by the pentagon.
